What is PALS about?
Core functions of the organisation are:
PALS Jamaica has developed a suite of programme offerings in conflict resolution, classroom management and behaviour management for educational institutions ranging from early childhood to teachers’ college level.
PALS also has programmes which it has offered to the wider society, ranging from ‘pon the corner’-type sessions promoting the tenets of alternatives to violence, to youth camps, the police force and the workplace.
PALS Jamaica is operated by a board of directors comprising representatives of its shareholders, the founding media companies, the Ministries of Education and Health, the Jamaica Teachers’ Association, the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica, the Peace Education Foundation (Florida, U.S.A.), the Jamaica Council of Churches and education specialists. The founder of the organisation is the Honourable Oliver Clarke. The chairman of PALS is Mr. Christopher Barnes, managing director of The Gleaner Company and the general manager is Janilee Jimenez de Abrikian.
